Electric Muscle Stimulation

Electric Muscle Stimulation

EMS promotes healing and relaxation of muscle tissue. Electrical current at a specific frequency, intensity and rate is used to deeply penetrate the muscle, increase blood flow and fatigue the muscle by contracting and releasing the muscle tissue.

The current is conducted to sore or injured parts of the body through sterile rubber pads connected by leads to the IFC unit. Hot packs wrapped in dry towels may be used to add moist heat to the area.

Most people enjoy “stim” treatments and feel relaxed afterwards. It is usually used prior to chiropractic manipulation to promote easier, deeper adjustments but also is useful after an adjustment. EMS is similar to, but much deeper than tens therapy.
