- The words Sensory Deprivation may seem harsh and uncomfortable. A more accurate description of the experience is stimulus reduction. Ones senses are fully operating while one is in the tank, but the stimulus from the outside is reduced. The quiet environment inside the tank promotes relaxation, peace and comfort. It's like a mini-vacation
- The tank is not airtight
- One may keep the tank door open or closed, whichever is the most comfortable
- The water in the tank is circulated and cleaned after each use
- The tank contains 800 pounds of Epsom salts suspended in 10 inches of water. The salts make the water buoyant
- One may fall asleep in the tank without fear. If one rolls over the salt water in one's nose will immediately wake a person up. It is very hard to roll over in the tank
- If you are claustrophobic, keep in mind that the door may be kept open and that you can enter or leave the tank whenever you wish. Don't think of the tank as being an enclosed space— it is actually quite open and you are in total control. Using our tank may be a good way to overcome claustrophobia since floatation fosters relaxation
Before you arrive for your appointment
- OWC requests that women refrain from using the tank during their period
- Those with open cuts or wounds will not be allowed to use the tank
- If you must shave on the day of your flotation appointment, shave 2-3 hours before you arrive. The Epsom salt solution may sting
