- The tank door may be left open or may be closed. Your head can be at either end of the tank, whichever is the most comfortable for you
- One reclines comfortably on one’s back while in the tank. There is no right position for one’s hands. They may be at the sides, folded in front or clasped behind the neck
- Experiment with the most comfortable position for you
- It is best to keep the salt water out of your eyes. Keep your hands and wet hair away from your forehead. Place your towel within easy reach outside the tank in case you need to wipe the water off your face
- During the float you can explore your consciousness freely, allowing the mind to drift, or you can enter the tank with a specific question in mind to contemplate. There is no right or wrong way to approach the experience
After your float
- Shower at OWC to remove the Epsom salts from the body
- Drink plenty of water during the day after your float

- Research studies have shown stimulus reduction to be a powerful healing tool. Benefits may be seen from both the profound relaxation and the warm salt water.
- The high concentration of salt in the water allows the body to comfortably float in a state of relaxed but alert consciousness quite unlike any other experience.
- Water has long been known as a healing and purifying substance. During the float the body entrains with the natural frequency patterns of the salt-laden water. This re-enlivens the body’s electrical current and stimulates the body’s self-healing mechanism.
- Toxins are released and cleansed from the skin. Even heavy metals may be washed away.
- The salt in the water holds moisture just below the surface of the skin, allowing the skin to become more supple.
- Detoxification from an hour of flotation may equal a 3 day fast.
- The low degree of sensory stimulation allows for a relaxation so deep that it may equal 5 hours of rest from sleep, providing the basis for dynamic energy.
- Stimulus reduction is a true holistic therapy which promotes healing on all levels of the body, mind and spirit.
